When your heart is set on a ceremony with a view, a destination wedding is well worth the travel and planning. Baili and Brandon made the journey north of the US border for their destination Banff wedding overlooking the mountains. Between the beautiful scenery and this couple’s bold aesthetic, their wedding day was so much to photograph. I love when couples fully embrace being true to themselves. I leaned into a documentary approach with this Banff wedding and captured endless candid moments of their day. It was such a breathtaking day!

Baili and Brandon started their day at the scenic Lake Moraine. Their wedding day kicked off with a private first look and a legal paper signing ceremony that led up to their portraits. The next stop was their symbolic ceremony at Tunnel Mountain Reservoir which Brandon’s dad officiated. The ceremony site overlooks the mountains and created the most magical place for their vows. Both the couple & their guests were able to take in the stunning views surrounded by nature. Sometimes, however, nature has its own plans.

Baili and Brandon had a cool trendy cowgirl/cowboy aesthetic that truly spoke to them, and the wind gusts made it hilarious at times! During the ceremony, the wind picked up so much that their hats were flying everywhere (even Baili’s veil blew into her father-in-law’s face). It made for great memories as we all laughed it off and enjoyed embracing the elements.

Following their ceremony, Baili and Brandon accompanied guests to Bluebird Restaurant for cocktail hour and their reception. Afterwards, they ate dinner and Baili changed into her reception dress. One of the most unique things about their day was the tattoo artist they hired. The artist created a customized flash sheet for any guests wanting a spontaneous tattoo and it was a huge hit. No one expected the sign up sheet to be as long as it was! Before they danced the night away, several guests had speeches prepared to congratulate the newlyweds.

For anyone considering a wedding in Banff, I would strongly urge you to hire a planner. The expense of hiring a wedding planner for Banff celebrations is well worth it! They help with setup, takedown, logistics, and organization. However, navigating the legal logistics of Banff alone is reason enough to hire a planner. With their assistance, you will know how to accomplish each step with securing your venue(s) and dream backdrops without the added stress of figuring it out on your own.

Apart from the right help, there are a few tips to keep in mind for your own Banff, Alberta wedding. Summer weekends tend to be the busiest and most crowded. To avoid crowds in the parks, I recommend planning for a weekday ceremony in the summer. Banff is also beautiful in the winter months if that’s more your vibe. There truly isn’t a bad season here!
