So often, when couples are up to their eyeballs in planning a formal wedding, the stress and details can distract from the heart of it all. Michelle and Brandon bypassed the overwhelm with their Waterton Elopement in Alberta. They hit the road in their RV to secretly elope at Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton National Park. The intimacy and adventure of it all was completely enchanting, making their gallery completely unforgettable.
On June 19th, 2024, Michelle and Brandon packed up their RV for an unforgettable road trip to Alberta, Canada. Their mission? To secretly elope in the heart of Waterton before surprising their wedding guests at their August reception. And yes—they vlogged the entire thing. (You can view their video here!) The only two guests in attendance for their elopement were their witnesses. They took their responsibilities very seriously, from straightening out the train of Michelle’s dress to signing off on their secret nuptials. It was very intimate and truly one-of-a-kind in every detail. Their day was rooted in intentionality, authenticity, and the kind of joy that radiates from a couple who kept the focus on what matters most on your big day: each other.
Their ceremony was short, sweet, and tucked into a stunning pocket of open mountain and lake views. For other couples hoping to camp/stay in an RV in this area, there are nearby campsite options that overlook mountains and lakes where the moon rises right over them. It couldn’t have been more fitting for these adventure loving souls. No big crowd. No fuss. Just their vows, each other, and custom Converse under their wedding attire. The morning air was chilly, but as the day progressed, the sky turned into a bright, golden sunset. We took advantage of golden hour & drove to a nearby field to take wedding portraits that felt as fun and light hearted as their love is. It was quiet, sacred, and just so them.
For their elopement, Michelle and Brandon focused on a film feel by adding Super 8 coverage and film photography. These choices were very fitting for their style and relationship dynamic, similar to the setting itself. Waterton is a very underrated version of Banff with its gorgeous mountain views, crystal blue lakes, and incredible wildlife. The entire day felt like an adventure from start to finish, especially when we incorporated laughter and the camera in several of the portrait shots following the ceremony. The joy they share is contagious, and it shows in the shared smiles and embraces captured in their Alberta elopement gallery!
Waterton offers the perfect setting for couples dreaming of a low-key but breathtaking elopement. Unlike Banff, Waterton’s permitting process (including photography) is more relaxed, making it an ideal location for couples craving adventure without navigating endless red tape. As an added bonus, a nearby campsite near the Maskinonge Overlook off Highway 5 (right by the Prince of Wales Hotel) gives you front-row views of moonrises over calm waters. From a photography standpoint, you can’t ask for a more stunning backdrop. For eloping couples, the cinematic surroundings are perfection when it comes to exchanging vows with the person you love most.
